The fact that they overbooked the hotel is baffling to me and I did not feel like anyone there thought that this was as big a problem as I did, and I feel like there should have been more compensation for as big a mistake as was made.

I feel like that was the absolute minimum that could have been done. The only compensation I was offered is that I didn't have to pay for the night in the room that I didn't book (which was also smaller, not as nice and very loud) and was given 4 chocolates. I was in a conference at the hotel so that day I could not go back to my room between talks to rest or work or anything, which is why I booked in the conference hotel to begin with.

I had to go back to the reception desk the next day to specifically ask for early check in- not sure why that couldn't have happened when I tried to check in the night before, so more wasted time and annoyance.

So I had to go there, was not able to really unpack, stay that night, check out, and have my bags held most of the day until I got another room at the Sheraton. I booked 5 nights and arrived to be told that they did not have a room and I had to stay 1 of 5 nights at the Marriot across the street.
